Our K9 Division consists of two training units: Detection K9s and Patrol K9s, with both single-purpose and dual-purpose dogs in service. We primarily breed and raise our dogs in-house, allowing us to shape the drive, aggressions, stability, and temperament required for mission-specific roles. Whether assigned to narcotics, explosives, or patrol duties or dual-purpose deployment each K9 is carefully selected and developed for optimal performance.
We follow a strict one-handler-per-dog policy, which we believe is critical to fostering a strong bond, improving communication, and ensuring consistent results across real-world operations.

PROTECTION AND PATROL
Since its inception, our Protection K9 unit has been a cornerstone of Alexuandre K9’s commitment to security and safety.
At Alexuandre K9, our Patrol and Protection dogs are trusted partners, hand-selected and purpose-trained to protect what matters most. Each dog is carefully chosen for specific traits and aggressions, ensuring the ideal balance of temperament, responsiveness, and effectiveness.
We believe in identifying and developing the natural drives and characteristics of each young dog early on. This foundation enables us to shape confident, capable K9s that are not only well-balanced, but fully prepared for the demands of real-world situations, our dogs undergo scenario-based training that ensures they are calm under pressure, highly responsive, and ready to perform when it matters most, whether as dual-purpose patrol partners or loyal protection dogs integrated into home life.
EXPLOSIVE DETECTION
Our original K9 unit was established in 1998 in direct response to the surge of urban terror threats following a major bombing in the Western Cape. With local law enforcement agencies overwhelmed by the volume of bomb threats, we saw the need to provide specialized Explosive Detection K9 (EDC) support — enhancing public safety and filling critical capability gaps.
Today, our Explosive Detection K9s are trained to meet operational demands across a variety of environments, including vehicles, buildings, open areas, baggage, and event spaces. Each dog completes a rigorous imprinting and deployment-focused training program, where they are conditioned to detect a broad spectrum of explosive materials.
Prospective detection dogs are evaluated early for traits such as hunt drive, environmental confidence, and sociability — ensuring they are both mission-ready and safe for public-facing deployments. These can be extremely well balanced dual purpose patrol K9s or single-purpose detection dogs, built for high-traffic civilian environments and real-world threat response.
All of our Explosive Detection K9s are certified by the American Working Dog Association (AWDA), meeting recognised standards for accuracy, control, and operational reliability.
NARCOTICS DETECTION
The rise in illicit drug use continues to pose a significant threat to communities, workplaces, and institutions. In response, our Narcotics Detection K9s are trained to support clients in identifying and deterring the presence of illegal and controlled substances across a wide range of environments.
Our dogs undergo a rigorous detection training program that mirrors our Explosives Detection standards, utilizing both legally obtained real narcotic training aids and synthetic odour replication systems. This dual approach ensures comprehensive imprinting across a broad range of narcotics — including street-level drugs and prescription-controlled substances — while maintaining safety and compliance.
K9 candidates are assessed early in their development, with selection based on high hunt drive, focus, and environmental confidence.
All of our Narcotics Detection K9s are certified through the American Working Dog Association (AWDA), meeting recognised standards for accuracy, control, and operational reliability.
